Cuba, an island with a rich history and culture, attracts visitors with its unique blend of Caribbean charm, vibrant cities and unspoiled nature. From the bustling streets of Havana to the idyllic beaches of Varadero, Cuba has something special for every traveler.

How to get to Cuba

Most international flights land at one of Cuba's two largest airports:

  • Havana José Martí International Airport (HAV): Cuba's largest airport and main international hub, located just 15 kilometers southwest of Havana. Flights from all over the world, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, land here.

  • Varadero Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport (VRA): Cuba's second largest airport, mainly used for tourist flights, is located 35 kilometers southwest of Varadero and is an ideal base for a beach holiday.

Practical information for your flight

  • Airlines: Numerous airlines offer direct flights and connections to Cuba, including Condor, Edelweiss Air, Eurowings Discover and Swiss.

  • Flight duration: The flight duration from Germany to Havana is about 11-12 hours, to Varadero about 10-11 hours.

  • Entry requirements: To enter Cuba, you need a passport that is still valid for at least six months, as well as a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turista), which you can apply for in advance at the Cuban embassy or your tour operator.

  • Currency: The official currency in Cuba is the Cuban Peso (CUP), but tourists usually use the convertible peso (CUC). It is recommended to take cash in euros or US dollars and exchange it for CUC on site.

Havana Airport has four terminals, with Terminal 3 being the most modern and largest. Here you will find a wide range of services, including:

Varadero Airport is smaller than Havana Airport, but still offers all the necessary facilities:

  • Currency exchange: Exchange offices are available.

  • Gastronomy: There are some snack bars and cafes.

  • Shopping: A small duty-free shop offers souvenirs and Cuban cigars.

  • Transport: Taxis and buses connect the airport with Varadero and other resorts.
